Povzetek

Illness functions as a kind of intermezzo between the acts of a chilďs life: the maturing process comes to a standstill for some time, the child is freed from everyday cares and duties, and is again cared for by others. Illness, however, is associated with a number of problems, such as fear of the doctor and hospital, parents' concern about the outcome of the illness, absence from school, and others. On the other hand, illness may be an opportunity for the child to satisfy some of his emotional neeeds, to get some much-needed rest in both physical and mental terms, and to get fit again before resuming his duties. The author outlines the chilďs needs during his stay in hospital and stresses the role played by parents and health staff attending the sick child.
