Abstract

Community nurses often deal with patients with chronic wounds, among them diabetic foot, pressure sores, shinbone wounds and oncologic wounds. Holistic and patient oriented approach is required, based on new knowledge on the treatment of chronic wound. The article presents a theoretical survey of modern approaches to team treatment of chronic wounds and stresses modern to the preparation of the base of the wound and the use of modern dressings. Community nursing care of a patient with chronic shinbone wound is presented, as well as a three months follow up of the patient. The changes of the state of the wound are documented with photos and descriptions of separate dressings. The expenses for the material and community nurse visits are presented as well. The comparison of hypothetical expenses of wound dressings with classical materials is shown. The comparison of both calculations reveals that the expenses are 47 % lower when modern dressings are used.
