Abstract

The article deals with health education as one of the methods of work in psychiatric nursing. The role of the nurse within its frames is also dealt from the ethical point of view. Concepts such as informing, learning, education are defined and explained from the point of view of psychiatric nursing. The educational aspect of health education in contrast to learning and informing is stressed. Categories of education like values and positions and their importance for the attitude to health of the individual and community are discussed. Goals and carriers of nursing education are exposed, as well as the role of health workers as carriers of this activity. The article also brings some suggestions about some forms and methods of work in psychiatric nursing care/education. The article concludes with the need for a standardized health education, for unified and coherent information and education of patients from the part of the whole team – for coordinated efforts of the team members for the benefit of the patients, colleagues and institution as a whole.
