Invitation to Join the Editorial Board of the Slovenian Nursing Review

Based on the provisions of the Rules of Procedure for the Editorial Boards of Informational, Professional and Other Publications, the Executive Board of the Nurses and Midwives Association of Slovenia invites applications from candidates interested in serving as members of the Editorial Board of the Slovenian Nursing Review for the 2027–2031 term.

Eligibility Criteria

Members of the Editorial Board are expected to:

  • have a good knowledge of the professional and research fields of nursing and/or midwifery;
  • have a good command of Slovenian and English;
  • have published at least three scientific articles (COBISS typology 1.01 or 1.02) within the past five years, with the candidate serving as the first or corresponding author on at least two of these articles;
  • be familiar with the principles of scholarly publishing, the peer-review process, and research and publication integrity;
  • demonstrate the ability to critically evaluate scientific and professional manuscripts;
  • be familiar with, or willing to learn, the Open Journal Systems (OJS) online journal management platform;
  • be proficient in word-processing software and other tools required for editorial work (at minimum MS Word and MS Excel);
  • demonstrate the ability to work as part of a team, reliability, responsiveness, and adherence to agreed deadlines;
  • respect the principles of confidentiality, impartiality, and appropriate disclosure of potential conflicts of interest;
  • be willing to actively participate in Editorial Board meetings.

Previous experience in peer review, editorial work, and scholarly publishing is desirable.

Duties and Responsibilities of Editorial Board Members

Editorial Board members:

  • generally handle 5–6 manuscripts per year;
  • manage the editorial process for assigned manuscripts, including the initial assessment of their content and professional suitability, participation in the selection of reviewers, communication with authors and reviewers, assessment of revised manuscripts, and preparation of an editorial recommendation regarding further consideration and/or publication;
  • review manuscripts within their areas of professional and/or research expertise, when required;
  • contribute to maintaining the quality, scientific rigor, and content relevance of published articles;
  • use the Open Journal Systems (OJS) online platform in their editorial work;
  • consistently adhere to the principles of research and publication integrity, confidentiality of the editorial and peer-review processes, impartiality, and disclosure of potential conflicts of interest;
  • attend Editorial Board meetings, normally at least four times a year, or before the publication of each issue of the journal;
  • actively contribute to the development of the journal, the formulation of editorial policy, and the improvement of its scientific, professional, and editorial quality;
  • as agreed, contribute to attracting high-quality submissions and strengthening the journal’s visibility within the professional and academic community.

Term of Office and Working Arrangements

Editorial Board members are appointed for a four-year term.

Members are expected to carry out their editorial responsibilities actively and continuously throughout their term of office.

The Editorial Board normally meets at least four times a year before the publication of each issue of the journal. Meetings are generally held in person at the headquarters of the Nurses and Midwives Association of Slovenia, with remote participation arranged when necessary.

Editorial Board members are remunerated in accordance with the applicable regulations of the Nurses and Midwives Association of Slovenia.

During the initial period, newly appointed Editorial Board members will receive an introduction to editorial work and training in the use of the Open Journal Systems (OJS) platform, with mentoring support from experienced Editorial Board members.

Members actively participate in shaping the journal’s editorial policy and its further development.

Application Requirements

Applicants should submit:

  • a brief CV describing their professional, research, and/or teaching activities;
  • an indication of their areas of professional and/or research expertise;
  • a bibliography or list of scientific articles published within the past five years, demonstrating fulfilment of the required criteria;
  • a brief description of their previous experience in scholarly publishing, peer review, and any editorial work;
  • a brief motivation letter explaining their interest in joining the Editorial Board of the Slovenian Nursing Review.
