Abstract

Postpartum depression affects 10 to 15 % women after childbirth and is one of the most common complications of the post-partum period, commoner than pre-eclampsia, gestational diabetes or pregnancy toxemia. Because it can leave serious consequences on mother’s and baby’s health, it requires serious alertness from workers. The article brings a survey of literature and stresses the importance of the role of midwives and community nurses in the prevention, detection and treatment of post-partum mental disorders.
