Abstract

Observance of general principles of proper collection, handling and sending of bacteriologic specimens is essential for early identification and efficient treatment of infective conditions. Good results of microbiologic examination depend mainly on the following factors: the shortest time possible from obtaining specimens to growing them on culture media, strict aseptic precautions to reduce contamination; adequate amount of the material collected and proper sending of the samples to the laboratory.
