Abstract

The first part of the article introduces the theoretical background of data gathering in the process of patient assessment and the process leading to nursing diagnosis which is of crucial importance for goal setting and nursing care planning. As well, nursing diagnosis and its separate elements are defined. In the second part of the article, the author presents typical nursing diagnoses in the elderly diabetic patients using the system and taxonomy after M. Gordon and The North American Nursing Diagnosis Association (NANDA) in connection with specific features of nursing care in them.
