Abstract

Good communication between the patient and health care workers is of key importance for patient’s satisfaction, trust and treatment outcome. The patient should always have access to all the information they need for their treatment and the understanding of their condition through different communication paths. Modern computer technology, which has become a part of everyday practice in health care, is offering new possibilities in communication. The Internet in particular enables easy and quick access to nearly all the information needed. The article deals with electronically supported or computermediated communications and with the context of Internet communication. The author analyses the advantages and disadvantages of e-mail, an indispensable world-wide communication and social medium of the 21st century. Conclusion reveals the lack of data concerning the influence and the effects of such communication on the relationship between the patient and health care workers; it also advises that this kind of communication cannot replace a more personal contact, but can serve as a great support.
