Abstract

Introduction: Multiple lifestyle risk factors exposure is linked to the development of communicable diseases and is in Slovenia most prevalent among young adults (25–35 years old). Health coaching could be used in health education for lowering the prevalence of multiple lifestyle risk factors among young people. The aim of the review is to identify and analyse the literature regarding health coaching in healthy lifestyle promotion among youth.
Methods: The literature review was conducted in PubMed and PubMed Central databases. The PRISMA guidelines were followed. Identified results were categorized according to the hierarchy of evidence and the quality was evaluated with mixed methods studies quality evaluation tool.
Results: Of 777 identified results seven original scientific papers were included in the final analysis. In dealing with multiple lifestyle risk factors, health coaching is most commonly used in the promotion of eating habits and physical activity simultaneously. The approach includes the use of modern information communication technology with people younger than 35.
Discussion and conclusion: Health coaching has the potential to impact the elimination and prevention of multiple lifestyle risk factors among young people. The implementation of health coaching interventions should be carefully planned and accompanied by continuous evaluation of their success rate and effectiveness.
